In depth

Verdict

This looks wide-open but Atomic Rumble in on a hat-trick, though hasn’t raced since June. July’s Worcester winner The Twisler steps up in trip but so do many of his rivals. Darling Maltaix was in the process of running a good race over a similar distance at Taunton a year ago but fell at the last. He’s still a maiden but was placed twice in the spring and should be thereabouts again. DESIREMOI D’AUTHIE failed to justify favouritism on his return at Fontwell but the third won his next two so the form may be better than it looked at the time. Chris Gordon’s French-bred has come up against some decent novices in his career to date and is not badly treated here. Shanroe Tic Tec would have been placed at Worcester last month had he not come to grief and could go well at bigger odds while New Quay has had wind surgery since last seen.
