Verdict

Trueshan bids to win this for the third time though things didn’t go to plan when odds-on for the Doncaster Cup and he was beaten a neck by Coltrane. The latter had earlier run below par behind Quickthorn in the Lonsdale Cup at York but Trawlerman landed the Ebor on the Knavesmire and steps up in trip along with the impressive St Leger winner ELDAR ELDAROV (NAP). The latter looks sure to stay this far and, having also won the Queen’s Vase here during the summer, Roger Varian’s progressive colt gets the vote. Another three-year-old, Watervill,e finished well ahead of stablemate Wordsworth when winning the Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh and the Ballydoyle charge should also have the measure of compatriot Stratum.
