Verdict

The search for value in this renewal of this Listed contest leads to Crocodile Dundee, who makes slightly more appeal at the likely prices than Gatwick, Lord Mayor and Mutafanen, who have been busy this season but have to be very much respected as live dangers. Supporters of Privy Seal and Leicester Square will no doubt argue their cases, as both horses are at least up to winning at this level and will do their bit to make this a true test of stamina. However, the latter is the least exposed at this stage and comes into the race on the back of a good reappearance effort at Kempton last month. The step up in distance should not be a problem for the son of Gone West and he is definitely one to reserve a place for on the shortlist. Similar sentiments apply to Gatwick, whose performance in the Derby was a commendable one for a colt making the switch from handicap company. However, a line through Hazeyview does not leave much between himself and the selection; which bodes well in trying to squeeze out a fair price from the betting ring. Lord Mayor, a gallant winner at Epsom last time, comes into the race with a sound profile and a bold bid cannot be ruled out again today. Even so, he does have a little to find on the official figures for the race and his likely short price is more to do with his trainer and jockey combination than his actual achievements up to press. Therefore, it can pay to give Julian Poulton's charge a chance to strike a blow for the smaller yards as he has done very little wrong in his starts this season. As one that will be hard to place outside this grade, Crocodile Dundee will be going hell-for-leather to make the most of the opportunity presented to him this afternoon. Which leads us to think he may be underestimated simply as he comes from a less fashionable yard.
