Verdict

MAGICAL won last year’s renewal having run in the Arc only a fortnight before. She’s had a longer rest this time having landed the Irish Champion Stakes from Ghaiyyath last month and Aidan O’Brien’s brilliant mare can confirm last season’s form with runner-up Addeybb. The latter has his ground today and can finish closer to Lord North, who won the Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes here in June, while the latter’s stablemate Mishriff won the French Derby before landing the odds in a Group 2 in heavy going in France and Frankie keeps the partnership intact. Skalleti has a terrific strike rate in lower grade races in France and beat subsequent Arc winner Sottass in a Group 3 at Deauville in August but Japan has a bit to find with a couple of these and Serpentine could only manage fourth in the Grand Prix de Paris on his first outing since winning the Derby. Pyledriver struggled in the Derby but went to finish a creditable third in the St Leger.
