In depth

Verdict

Ettrick Water is a progressive sort and may be up to landing the hat-trick, with Definite Guest, True Night and Finished Article just three dangers in this big field. Luca Cumani's gelding has hit a rich vein of form since front-running tactics were employed, with back-to-back successes at Bath and Hamilton coming under Darryll Holland. With conditions in his favour, he might be up to the task, although a higher draw would have increased our optimism. Definite Guest is also drawn low but has been lightly campaigned of late with this in mind. Richard Fahey's charge did not get the best of luck in running in his prep race at Newbury and has a telling turn of foot. True Night, drawn in four, finished ahead of Definite Guest at Chester in August but is worse off at the weights today. Finished Article caught the eye at Goodwood, staying on really well behind Impeller, and is yet another in with a shout. Ettrick Water is the selection to small stakes.
