      Verdict

Trust Rule is lightly-weighted and in form so merits serious consideration, with Jagger, last year's winner Scott's View and Distinction all holding leading claims as well. The latter gets three pounds off Scott's view after beating that rival off levels in a near course-record time at Salisbury and is on the upgrade. However, the drop back to a mile and a half is a bit of a worry for this relentless galloper, and he may be passed when the pace hots up again in the straight. Trust Rule, winner of the Garrowby Rated Stakes at York, was to have been aimed at the Cambridgeshire but connections reckon that he will make up into a useful stayer next season, a belief that may be borne out in time. The form of his York win has been boosted by the second and third since, with Starry Lodge dead-heating at Newbury last week and Itemise a good second at Doncaster. With Nicky Mackay taking five pounds off his back, Barry Hills' charge must be in with a leading chance. Jagger lines up in search of a hat-trick, but may want further, while Hambleden will ensure that there is no hanging about. That should help Trust Rule who is the pick.
