In depth

Verdict

Akilak let himself down with his jumping at the track last time out and needs to improve in that area before he can be nominated; Double Eagle represents a stable in form and gets the vote. The selection doesn't have much to find on Endless Power and Akilak on official ratings and receiving 6lbs today, this progressive son of Silver Patriarch is taken to oblige. His debut behind Tidal Bay looks very solid (despite over-reactions regarding that one's defeat at Doncaster) and given his rather decent hurdling form on heavy ground last season, he should be backed to win today. Akilak is still learning but needs to improve his jumping; he may appreciate a step up to three miles in the future. Endless Power is a course and distance winner but Jim Goldie's gelding has struggled under a penalty since winning here in November and whilst the ground suits he can be passed over. At a price winning pointer-to-pointer Mr Springer should not be overlooked, however preference is for Double Eagle.
