In depth

Verdict

Some promising sorts in this finale and none can be fully ruled out; however we will side with Gardasee ahead of Some Touch and Villon. The selection was pulled out of a race at Kempton on Friday because of the ground being too quick and whilst he has other entries this weekend, if he turns up here then he could prove hard to beat. His run behind a good one in a Grade One chase at Leopardstown is good form and with the ground to suit, this strong front-runner may prove hard to peg back, especially if he gets an easy lead. First Look has been mixing chasing with hurdling with a degree of success but looks vulnerable to an improver, whilst Some Touch is consistent and will like the ground. Villon has won at the track before and wasn't beaten far last time out over a longer trip. The drop back to two miles will suit and his chance must be respected. Married looks to be outclassed and so preference is for Gardasee to win this before a crack at the Jewson handicap at the Festival.
