In depth

Verdict

The three-year-olds Flippant and Maracuja have to be respected from the bottom of the weights but HOLD THE LINE is taken to repeat his recent victory over the course and distance on ground he would have found too fast. Pat Shanahan has acquired him from Dubai and new connections shouldn't be too unhappy with a 6lb rise for that latest success. Silver Rime must always be feared in this class and gained his 10th victory on his 70th start at Carlisle, though he's only ever run once over a trip this far. Nicky Richards has done brilliantly to get 10 races out of Noble Allan, who rolled back the years to land the Cumberland Plate at Carlisle in June. Awake My Soul won here last summer and though unsuccessful subsequently looked ready to win again soon when a fine third to First Flight at Newmarket.
