Verdict
Another race where many hold claims. However, this course brings the best out of Highland Warrior, who is selected over Plateau, Artie and Brave Burt. The last named can be expected to make a bold bid to cut out the running and will ensure that no quarter measures will be accepted. He won this race under similar tactics last year and should again run his race. However, he has a little to prove with his stablemate Plateau and may be again playing patsy when the dash for home begins in earnest a furlong out. The lightly weighted Hout Bay and Obe One are others that will be getting going at this stage of the race and both will be hard to keep out of the frame if they avoid trouble in running. The latter especially deserves a change of fortune, as he has continually found trouble throughout, what has been, a frustrating campaign for his followers. His trainer would no doubt dearly like to post a reminder of his ability to get one ready for a race like this and he is no forlorn hope today. However, Highland Warrior, who also has lost a few races he should have won by starting slowly, seems to come alive when he races here and improves for at least a couple of lengths when things go right for him. Jim Goldie obviously is always keen to get a winner at this meeting and it could be expedient to side with his will and give Highland Warrior another chance at his favourite course.
