Verdict

With five of the eight runners for this handicap hurdle out of the handicap proper this may not be as competitive an event as it appears at first glance. Not disgraced behind Baracouda in the Stayers' Hurdle at the Festival meeting, topweight Telemoss sets a fair standard for the others to aim at. Whilst Nicky Richards' gelding has form on fast ground, he is arguably better on a softer surface. A similar comment applies to the Len Lungo-trained Mirjan but Ravenswood, from the Martin Pipe yard, seemed to relish underfoot conditions when landing a gamble at Aintree recently. Still relatively unexposed over hurdles, the mount of Tony McCoy looks the one to beat.
