Verdict

Makfool has the chance to regain his halo after a costly near miss at Epsom although Universal King and Tafaahum are expected to provide decent opposition. Mick Channon's colt is perhaps best judged on a third to Fort earlier in the season. Ed Dunlop's Go Between (rated 82) finishing just a length ahead. Although qualified for nurseries, it is interesting that the Channon team elect to come here and we will take the hint. Universal King is substantially stepped up in trip after three runs over five furlongs. There is plenty of stamina in the pedigree and the market should offer the best idea of any progression. Tafaahum was not knocked about on the first racecourse appearance and it is likely that Mark Johnston's representative will have come on for the run. Jim Goldie's runners are always worth a look when North of the border and Glencairn Star is one of the more eyecatching debutantes. The son of Selkirk cost 85000 guineas at the sales and is closely related to a number of winning juveniles. Gold Card has an interesting booking in Kevin Darley but the horse was cheaply bought and the pedigree might lend to a little more cut being required. Mr Independent comes here in preference to an entry at Kempton on Monday. On racecourse evidence, we will side with Makfool for the opener.
