Verdict
An interesting nursery to get us underway and from a shortlist that includes Cobo Bay, Sheekey and Ink Spot, we stick with the first named. The selection would not have appreciated the fast surface that he encountered last time out but with rain falling at Ayr, he showed enough at Newmarket in victory to confirm that he can act with cut in the ground and that he is more than capable of mixing it from the gate. Sheekey looks a deeply promising individual. Any money would be highly significant but we do not know as to whether he will act upon the surface or not. Ink Spot has few concerns on the going and the jockey booking appears highly positive. Bencoolen has to be respected from a yard where improvement is always likely for a run. Of the remainder, Montaquila drops to a more realistic level while Graceful Descent, who did at least attempt to give Absolution a race at Wolverhampton earlier in the month, has the will if not the natural ability. Daring Dream could go well at a price if staying the trip while hold-up performer, Joinedupwriting was not winning out of turn when obliging at Redcar. A good start to a valuable day and Cobo Bay secures the verdict.
