Verdict

A typically-competitive renewal of one of Europe’s most valuable sprint handicaps. Summerghand landed the spoils last year but is 5lb higher having picked up a penalty for his victory at York last month. However, he is still better off at the weights with last year’s third Juan Les Pins. Mr Wagyu was fifth last season and third the year before behind Bielsa. John Quinn’s veteran is on a decent mark nowadays and loves these big-field sprints so goes on the shortlist. Aberama Gold beat several of these when landing the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood but he has been well beaten in both starts since. Last week’s Portland runner-up Significantly has taken a step forward this year and that race is traditionally a strong trial for this while a case can also be made for bottom weight It Just Takes Time as a high draw could prove beneficial today. ORAZIO is another drawn near the stands rail and he has had a light campaign and just eight career starts in total. He clearly didn’t handle the mud at Goodwood and his form in the first half of the year was verging on Listed class so he should cope with a mark of 101.
