Verdict

Defy De Mee has produced his best runs over further and hasn't been the most consistent though would have an obvious chance on his narrow defeats at Fairyhouse and Naas. Like his stable companion Kolumbus, he is penalised for a bumper victory and the latter has become very disappointing. Dual Flat winner Lethal Steps has produced a couple of smart performances though more rain would aid his cause so the vote goes to THE LAST EMPEROR on his hurdling debut. A winner in the UK for Roger Varian and rated 86, he should have more basic speed than these and, providing the going doesn't ease too much, he can get off to a winning start. Fallen Forest has run quite well behind two smart winners and looks best of the remainder.
