Verdict

The penultimate race on the card is a tricky race to call but we tentatively side with EASTWELL SMILES who was only four lengths behind one rated at 92 last time out, whilst Moon Melody is a very real threat and Colonial Jim has claims on the pick of his hurdling efforts. Richard Phillips is yet to have a winner over the hurdles so far this year and Eastwell Smiles is a still a maiden from twenty one starts. However these statistics can be defied today after he showed an improved effort to place third last time out behind Kopylova at Worcester. The winning jockey that day, Richard Johnson, takes the ride on our pick on this occasion and although there are reservations we take a risk on his mount. Moon Melody won well at Fakenham in May over this sort of trip and will challenge for the major honours. Colonial Jim was a long way behind the victor when finishing runner-up at Fontwell latest, but the winner subsequently came fourth in his next run. We prefer to watch him today and instead opt for Eastwell Smiles to pick up the win.
