Sir Plato and Zefferino, beaten only half-a-length over track and trip at the start of the month, are previous course winners but there is no reason to desert the in-form BEOWULF (NAP) just yet as he lost nothing in defeat in his hat-trick bid at Newbury when there was probably more give in the ground than was ideal. Fascinating Shadow has shown enough to suggest he can pick up a handicap off his current mark, as has Halcyon Spirit, but Yanifer may be a few pounds too high at present.
Sir Plato (IRE) 4-1 (9-2) Edged right and bumped start, chased leaders on outside, lost place over 4f out, no impression after, last of 6, 5 1/4l behind Miquelon (9-6) at Chepstow 7f hcp (4) gs in Aug.
Halcyon Spirit 9-2 (9-4) Close up, ridden 2f out, bumped over 1f out, weakened final furlong, 5th of 6, 7 3/4l behind Power Station (9-4) at Salisbury 1m hcp (5) gd in Aug.
Beowulf (IRE) 9-4fav (9-5) Held up in 5th, headway when not clearest of runs over 2f out, stayed on inside final furlong, went 3rd inside final 100 yards, never able to challenge, 3rd of 8, 1 3/4l behind Just Jacob (9-2) at Newbury 1m 2f hcp (5) gd in Aug.
Fascinating Shadow (IRE) 7-1 (9-11) Chased clear leader, ridden over 3f out, kept on, not pace to challenge, 4th of 10, 5 3/4l behind Arenas Del Tiempo (9-10) at Epsom 1m 2f hcp (5) gf in Aug.
Zefferino 9-2 (9-7) Mid-division, headway to chase leaders halfway, ridden to lead over 2f out, strongly pressed 1f out, kept on but headed close home, 2nd of 14, 1/2l behind Plansina (9-7) at Bath 1m 2f hcp (6) fm in Sep.
Yanifer 5-1 (9-5) Raced keenly, soon steadied into 6th on inside, headway over 1f out, plugged on into 4th towards finish, 4th of 9, 5 3/4l behind Curtiz (9-4) at Epsom 1m 1f hcp (5) gd in Aug.
