In depth

Verdict

Squirtle is taken to defy topweight against the likes of Mighty Splash, Wings Of Dawn and Siakira. Squirtle had been threatening to score before opening her account at Haydock recently, having been runner-up on three separate occasions. The key to her victory was a step up in trip, and although she was a wee bit fortunate to hang on from Osolomio, whom she shortened up near the finish, she she should continue to progress now that connections have found the key to her. Providing they go a decent pace here, there is no reason why she should not follow up. Talking of pace, there was a distinct lack of it when Mighty Splash beat three opponents at Brighton last time, and she will do well to follow up under a 6lb penalty. Wings Of Dawn showed her first worthwhile form when third at Pontefract and may yet find a race, while Siakira will improve for the step back up in trip. The final race can go to Squirtle.
