In depth

Verdict

Alaskan Jewel was strongly backed last time after such a promising Newcastle debut but was never going well - the explanation given was that she was unsuited by the Ripon undulations. She has an obvious shout if returning to the level of her debut. As with the first division of the contest, the market should prove informative with a host of newcomers from leading northern yards but the tentative choice is RHINO, who has plenty of sprinting blood in his pedigree and hails from an in-form outfit. Hester Prynne and Queen's Heir rate as sorts likely to do well at two, with Shear Gold also well worth watching in the betting for a yard which can get one ready first time.
