Verdict
Plenty of these have claims on the pick of their form and Bond Millennium, First Maite and Oscar Pepper head a list of dangers that are all capable of putting in a bold show today. However, preference is for Locombe Hill, who has dropped to a handy mark after enduring a fruitless campaign this season. He is much better than his recent form with Jamestown would suggest and the gelding may provide the key to unlocking some value in a tricky race to solve. The selection was hammered by the handicapper as a three-year-old and has always been difficult to assess since then. But he does win races in his turn and this is his time of year. David Nicholls is a past master at placing horses of this nature and the son of Barathea can provide a sound fillip as the Yorkshire-based trainer warms up for another assault on the Ayr Gold Cup later in the week.
