In depth

Verdict

Enforcer was good value for his success at Goodwood last month but that was on a soft surface and, back on today's faster ground, he looks worth taking on with preference for Alamiyan over Todman Avenue. The last mentioned has shown some decent form in France and is difficult to evaluate on his British debut for Luca Cumani so may be best watched. Pevensey won nicely at York last month but has been done few favours with a draw in stall two and of more interest may be Brian Ellison's Ashkal Way, although the son of Ashkalani may want a softer surface to be seen to better effect. Recent Leicester winner Royal Jet could have been better berthed while Liakoura, who is well drawn, comes from the Amanda Perrett stable that is struggling for winners at present. Mark Johnston's Tarraman has not progressed as much as may have been expected and of more interest may be Cheerleader, although he is another with a tricky draw to overcome. A market move for Group Captain would be of interest but the vote goes to Sir Michael Stoute's Alamiyan, who probably found the ground against him at Goodwood and looks worth another chance on the evidence of previous form at Pontefract, especially from his decent draw.
