In depth

Verdict

There is no strength-in-depth to this race and it race to treat with extreme caution. However, something has to win and it will be a minor shock if Masterpoint does not make the most of this ease in grade count to add to his Newmarket maiden success from last year. A case can be made for Icecap and Countess Elton at the weights but neither have indicated that they are about to reverse their recent trends and are ones to be wary of for the time being. The same sentiments apply to Scraps and Weet A Mo, who could give the selection plenty to think about if they run up to their best. But as that cannot be guaranteed, this looks to be best left to Masterpoint, who has shaped as if in need of a confidence booster in his seven previous outings this term. The gelding was very highly tried as a juvenile and his rating shot up as a result of a couple of fair efforts in defeat. However, he is obviously not as good as his connections once thought he was but he should be too good for this moderate bunch today.
