In depth

There was cut in the ground when SPANISH ANGEL disappointed at Chester last time but Andrew Balding’s colt was beaten only a neck on fast going at Goodwood before that and a repeat should be good enough to land this. Newyorkstateofmind still finished five lengths behind the winner when runner-up at Windsor back in June while the newcomer Freshwater Cliffs is bred for further and will need to be above average with the likely favourite rated 81.

Freshwater Cliffs Canford Cliffs colt out of Morant Bay.

Newyorkstateofmind 15-2 (9-5) Prominent, driven to challenge over 2f out, soon ridden and one pace, kept on under pressure, no chance with very easy winner final furlong, 2nd of 8, 5l behind Shammah (9-0) at Windsor 5f stks (5) gs in Jun.

Spanish Angel (IRE) 7-4 (9-4) Pressed winner, lost 2nd over 1f out, weakened inside final furlong, 4th of 5, 10 1/4l behind Ocasio Cortez (9-5) at Chester 5f stks (4) gs in Jul.
