      In depth

The Jean Genie landed a double including a course and distance success back in April and ran well for second at Windsor on her return to action last month. But GEETANJALI escaped a penalty for winning an apprentices’ race at Yarmouth a week ago and followed up in impressive fashion at Sandown on Friday so Michael Bell’s filly can go in again despite a 5lb penalty. Cafe Sydney also bids for a hat-trick having won a couple of lowly Class 6 contests but Quick is struggling at present and is stepped up in trip.

The Jean Genie 8-1 (9-8) Led 2f, settled 3rd 6f out, headway and squeezed through inside final 2f, soon 2nd, ridden to lead and edged left over 1f out, headed and not pace of winner inside final furlong, 2nd of 10, 2 1/4l behind Black Lotus (9-7) at Windsor 1m 2f hcp (4) gd in Aug.

Quick 16-1 (9-2) Awkward and led to post, raced without right front shoe, chased winner until over 2f out, weakened rapidly, tailed off and eased final 2f, last of 7, dist behind Alfred Boucher (9-4) at Salisbury 1m hcp (4) sft in Aug.

Cafe Sydney (IRE) 10-11fav (8-10) Held up in 4th place, smooth headway on outside 3f out, hung left and led over 1f out, stayed on well, won at Brighton 1m 4f hcp (6) gf in Aug beating New Expo (8-2) by 2 1/2l, 5 ran.

Geetanjali (IRE) 4-1 (10-2) Held up in rear, smooth headway 2f out, led over 1f out, drew clear final furlong, easily, won at Sandown 1m 2f hcp fll (5) gf in Aug beating Geranium (9-9) by 1 1/2l, 6 ran.
