In depth

Verdict

John Akehurst's runners have been in good enough form to give Esperance another chance and he gets the nod over Mister Completely and Dash For Cover today. The selection will have the assistance of Seb Sanders, who rides this track as well as anyone on the circuit at the moment, and the partnership can gain compensation for a near miss at Redcar last month. Mister Completely is capable of making a fist of things and arrives here with solid claims if repeating the solid effort put in at Nottingham twenty-two days ago. However, his previous form with cut in the ground is nothing to write home about and there has to be the suspicion that this will just keep him sweet for a return to the all weather. Dash For Cover has also flopped on similar ground in the past but that is partially off-set as he tries his hand in this grade for the first time. However, he has been frustratingly short of the mark when asked for effort in a finish and others make more appeal to put it all in from the stalls to the line. None more than Esperance, who has long threatened to win a race of this nature and can exploit a feasibly good chance at the weights if he is in the mood this afternoon.
