Verdict
Westernmost is an interesting runner here for Martin Todhunter and is not without a chance, but we will take a chance on Tom Bell to have the edge over Purdey, The Kelt and Todhunter's charge. The key to Tom Bell is the ground and trainer John O'Shea has been quoted as saying he needs a bit of juice underfoot to be at his best. He has that here and although he has not run beyond 14 furlongs before he shapes as though he will get this extreme trip with the ground right for him. Westernmost may be the one to take advantage of any problems with Tom Bell's stamina. Proven over distances over the sticks, this is his first flat outing for almost two years. However, he retains some ability over the sticks and there seems no reason why he cannot go very well, especially with the ground also to his liking. Purdey has been taking in these staying trips this season and looks not much better than a moderate sort who is yet to win. Even so, there was some encouragement at Bath last time out and she may be up to making the frame, though the ground might not help her. Of the others Irish raider The Kelt is interesting. He won a handicap hurdle at Huntingdon in April and was punted on before finishing third at Ballinrobe last time. It seems unlikely that he will be here for the travelling experience and another gamble looks a distinct possibility. He will get the trip ok and the ground should not be a worry so he can give our selection most to do. Despite that we will take a chance on Tom Bell swell the coffers.
