In depth
Verdict
A very ordinary contest that won't take much winning and Alfy Rich looks capable of stepping up to the mark, with Jacksonville likely to be his biggest threat. A note of caution though about this trappy looking race, and the advice is not to wade in heavily on any of them, but perhaps keep the powder dry for future contests. Alfy Rich will be popular with plenty of ones and twos against his name this year, but closer inspection reveals that that form is far from fantastic and mostly over hurdles. However, his yard is not in bad form and does well here, and he can learn from his debut defeat here last time. If he runs up his hurdles mark then at these weights he will probably win. None of the others look inspiring and perhaps Jacksonville looks the best of them. A 2m 4f winner at Perth in the spring, he has been out of sorts since and his yard are a bit flat at present, so he may have to wait for another day. So, in a poor contest, we take Alfy Rich to small stakes.
