In depth

Verdict

This does not look the strongest of contests and a reproduction of his last time out form at Newcastle may be good enough for Fair Spin, who is preferred to Summer Special and Rajam. The last mentioned showed promise in two starts over hurdles last term but the son of Sadlers Wells disappointed on his hurdling return at Catterick earlier this month and may be best watched at present. Sue Bradburne's Summer Special lost no caste in defeat behind the useful Admiral at Musselburgh last month and should find this easier. He rates a bigger threat on that evidence than Richard Fahey's Butterwick Chief. The Nicky Richards-trained Joe Malone, who makes his hurdling debut, and course bumper winner Neidpath Castle are others to consider but the vote goes to Fair Spin. Micky Hammond's gelding confirmed earlier promise when successful at Newcastle last week and a reproduction of that form should suffice.
