In depth
Verdict
Mr Auchterlonie looks to be potentially well treated for his debut in a handicap and is preferred to last time out winner Posh Stick and the consistent Midlem Melody. The selection has lost little in defeat behind Why The Big Paws and Harrovian in his last two completed starts and, considering that the last mentioned has equipped himself well of a mark of 119 since then, Mr Auchterlonie can be considered to have been allotted a favourable mark of 102. Xaipete is still capable at the age of 13 but is pretty much exposed now, especially in comparison to the selection, and of more interest may be recent course and distance winner Posh Stick who has a 7lb penalty to carry for his 16-length defeat of Impertio. Glenfarclas Boy has been given a break by trainer Lucinda Russell and may be all the better for it, while Midlem Melody can be expected to run his usual game race. Mr Auchterlonie looks to have been given a chance by the handicapper though and he gets the vote to open his account over fences.
