Verdict

There are signs that Cactus Valley is starting to get to grips with jumping hurdles but he was a long way behind Always Resolute when that one won easily over track and trip on his debut over timber. The second in that race was well beaten subsequently, however, and Brian Ellison's charge was rated some 25lb inferior to Satellite on the Flat. Tim Vaughan has been waiting for better ground for his potentially useful novice and it will be interesting to see if he attracts market support. WILLIAM OF ORANGE (NAP) was also very useful on the level and will doubtless have learned plenty from his fourth here last month, when he was allowed to come home in his own time once the first two had gone beyond recall – he gets the nod.
