        Verdict

        DANCING LYRA gets our verdict in this contest with Karmest and Rosewin also on the shortlist. Although better known as a Southwell specialist, the gelding had a degree of decent form on the turf in the past and if Paul Hanagan can persuade him into cooperation, this is a weak enough race for the taking. Karmest is another better known on the fibresand. That said, her trainer is invariably capable of farming a bad race or two. Rosewin did so at Beverley.Whether she will be as effective on ground that isn't quite so fast is another matter. Runswick Bay looks flattered at the current BHA ratings. Den Maschine has ran well in two similarly modest events and looks capable of running close again. Barbirolli has gone well for this rider in this past and makes more appeal than his stable companion, Desert Hawk. Dimashq took a modest Amateur riders event and while having plenty to do at the weights, if rain arrives, she could have place claims today. Prince Samos is best of the rest. Lots of imponderables to mull over and while one shouldn't be burning the midnight oil over a contest as modest as this, it would be no surprise to see Dancing Lyra being up to landing it.
