In depth

Verdict

As you expect for a maiden chase this is pretty ordinary fayre and one who can take advantage of that is Bewleys Hotels. Stepped up in trip from two miles here, the gelding ran well over hurdles before a creditable effort on debut over fences last time, when he finished fourth behind Gralmano . He is untried on good to soft, but provided he handles it then he should be up to winning this. The most interesting of his opponents is River Bailiff. The six-year-old has only been seen once in public, when he did not get home over 3m 2f in a hunter chase at Folkestone in May. With his yard in such good form even though he has not been tried over both trip and ground, any market support would surely be significant. Burwood Breeze makes his chasing debut. Rated 101 over hurdles, and one who likes some cut, he should go well for Tom George if he jumps well at the first attempt. The only other runner of interest here is Cameron Jack. Third of four on debut over fences at Hexham last time, some improvement is expected here, though it would be a shock if he were good enough to win.
