Verdict

Thyme Hill took the Kauto Star at Kempton on Boxing Day but the winners of that race have a poor record in this contest and not many nine-year-olds have won this either. Sir Gerhard had only two rivals when making a winning debut over fences at Gowran in January but he did win the Ballymore on this day 12 months ago and has untapped potential. Stablemate Ramillies is a thorough stayer but GERRI COLOMBE won the Faugheen at Limerick over Christmas and the Scilly Isles at Sandown last month. He’s won a point over 3m and been successful over 2m7f over hurdles so the step up in trip over fences is not going to faze Gordon Elliott’s upwardly mobile gelding. Thunder Rock was only third at Sandown and behind The Real Whacker in January with the latter not be underestimated given he’s had just six career starts.
