This is definitely a race for first and second-season hurdlers with five and six-year-old having won all seven renewals to date and been responsible for 13 of the 14 places. It also pays to have had a light campaign with no previous winner having raced more than four times in the current season. Flying Angel has been busier than most and has a penalty for his easy win on bottomless ground in the Imperial Cup on Saturday. Irish challengers Childrens List, Urano, Whiteout and Jetstream Jack are also a bit more exposed than some but Gordon Elliott will have high hopes for the in-form Squouateur. Paul Nicholls runs three but Ibis Du Rheu is a bit of a weak finisher and the novice Mr Mix would need to up his game again. Harry Cobden rode Old Guard to victory in the Greatwood here back in November and can notch another big-race success on QUALANDO. He's 8lb higher than when swopping late to land last year's Fred Winter but was more like his old self when just touched off by Royal Vacation at Taunton last month and is more effective on this quicker surface. Montdragon and Work In Progress may prove the pick of the remainder.
