    Verdict

These veterans' races are great fun but far from ideal from a punting perspective. ALPHA DELTA WHISKY had a blow at Lingfield in mid-March which should have done him the world of good and, unlike many of these, he's equally effective on Turf as the all-weather. He landed a couple of wins around this time last year and all three latest victories have been achieved with Michael Murphy in the saddle. Dark Lane boasts a course and distance success and showed he remains in good heart with a runner-up effort at Yarmouth last time behind Fathom Five. He seems unfazed by a consistently busy schedule and should be competitive off bottom weight. Solemn and Hamoody are place options but Italian Tom looks better short-list material if ready to roll on his seasonal debut.
