In depth
Verdict
Not a race for a dogmatic approach, but Sahaat has dropped a few hints that his turn is not too far away and is selected over Cloud Nine and Banningham Blaze, who edge preference over the rest. Forbearing and Rolex Free are bubbling under on the shortlist and will no doubt take a chunk out of the market. However, neither are straightforward characters and the form will be very suspect if one or the other prevails this afternoon. Banningham Blaze makes more appeal as a reliable performer and she should run her race again. On Cloud Nine is unexposed and has to be a serious consideration. His latest run looks solid in the context of this race and he could be saver material here. However, Sahaat makes far more appeal from the perspective of trying to find one to well at a fair price. This French-bred gelding - a former inmate of John Hammonds - has taken an eternity to adapt to racing on these shores and has switched yards recently as a result. Mark Polglase has now taken the view that this is his level and, after a series of near misses, this presents Sahaat with a good opportunity to end his winless drought - at a fair price to boot.
