Verdict

Carruthers continued a golden spell for his small yard when just holding off Amigo at Newbury. He is clearly no back number and only 4lb higher here but Just A Par never figured in the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir at The Festival and Gervey Chembertin likewise in a Grade 3 at Cheltenham. Global Power fell at the first in the Midlands Grand National last time but was at least spared a slog through the mud, unlike Samingarry and Rebeccas Choice. VICTORS SERENADE is hard to catch right but is due a good run and eased in grade today. He has Carruthers well behind when winning over track and trip in October and a return to that kind of form would give him a squeak in a race in which a number of those in the bottom half of the handicap could have stamina limitations.
