In depth

Verdict

Davenport won a weak contest but very competitive event at Goodwood earlier this month, coming with a wide sweeping run to run down his rivals. A mark of 70 on that occasion did look lenient and while he is up 5lb, he has proven himself a horse in form. Quite often when these older horses hit a patch of form, they can sustain it and Davenport is given the nod. The less exposed Roodolph does appear the biggest danger to the selection. He scored his first victory since his racecourse debut last time and like the selection has received a hike of 5lb for his victory. Dr McFab is well worth keeping an eye on in the market given his previous connections and the trainers ability at getting one ready. The two inform horses look set to dominate this event and Davenport is the selection.
