In depth

Verdict

Aragorn can lord it over Dabbers Ridge, with Soviet Times, Spanky's Ladder and Arnprior just a few to note in the market. The last three named all see the racecourse for the first time and could be anything, but Aragorn created a favourable impression when second to Showdance on his Cork debut last June for John Oxx. The son of Giant's Causeway looked far from ready that day as he played up at the start, but the ability is there and the move across to Newmarket is interesting. Dabbers Ridge has a fitness advantage after being caught in the slipstream of Museeb at Doncaster and appears a ready-made winner in maiden company. Soviet Times is related to plenty of winners, while Spanky's Ladder is a full-brother to useful miler Sound Blaster. Mark Johnston often introduces a decent sort here and so Arnprior is worth a mention, while Algharb is related to lots of sprinters. There could be plenty of winners to come out of this contest, and it is Aragorn who is the most interesting today.
