Verdict
QUEEN MARTHA is preferred here to Montmartre, Block Party and Sparkling Crystal in what looks to be a pretty decent three-year old handicap. Mikael Magnusson has only had a couple of runners at the track but the selection can provide him with his first Doncaster winner. A mark of 74 for her handicap bow looks fair enough given she shaped last time when winning at Nottingham as if there was more improvement to come. She showed a good attitude on that occasion and this $100,000 filly can continue to pay back some of that fee. Sparkling Crystal has more experience than most of her rivals but she is ultimately yet to win in eight starts and this step up in trip will need to bring about some improvement, although judging on her pedigree that is entirely possible. Montmartre has had three starts, and he showed more promise on his latest run at Nottingham. He was a big price there but would be interesting here if holding a much more prominent position in the market. Block Party also makes his handicap debut this afternoon and this well-bred Roger Charlton inmate should prove to be better than this opening mark of 74 in time. Elsewhere in the line-up Well Of Echoes and Bandamaman must be considered a threat if the market signs are positive, however it is Queen Martha who can reign supreme.
