In depth

Verdict

The newcomers On Air and Caamora warrant respect on pedigree and given their respective connections but Criminal Act sets a decent standard and the Barry Hills-trained colt gets the vote. The selection has run to a similar level of form in two starts so far (both over shorter) and there should be more to come over today's longer trip. Plum Pudding stepped up on his debut effort when a creditable third behind Extreme Measures at Newbury last time and, with further improvement to come, he has to be considered. Ed Dunlop's two-year-olds normally need their first start so the chances are that Oquawka is probably best watched and of more interest may be Howard Johnson's Verification, a son of Medicean who should be ideally suited by the underfoot conditions. Jeremy Noseda's Cape Cross filly Caamora and Mark Johnston's On Air both warrant respect first time out but either of them will need to be useful to beat Criminal Act, who looks the one they all have to beat.
