In depth

Verdict

In what is another nightmare for punters, a very small wager on Tableau may pay off, with a whole host of possibles including Spring Whisper, Spring Surprise, African Star and Domestica to name but four. With trainers keen to give their youngsters some sort of experience before the winter break, these type of events should be treated with caution, but Barry Hills has his team ticking over nicely on the gallops and from what we have heard, Tableau is preferred to stablemate Spring Surprise. Owned by Khalid Abdulla, this son of Marquetry is related to a few winners, notably over a mile and may be forward enough at the first time of asking. Spring Whisper is also well regarded, being a son of Halling, and is related to Shareef Dancer on the dam's side. Ed Dunlop will be keen to push her next season. Marcus Tregoning has his team in great form and Okoboji has the assistance of Pat Eddery, while Andrew Balding's record this term suggests that Domestica should be kept in mind. African Star comes from a stable with plenty of juvenile talent and with Dane O'Neill on board it would be no surprise to see him go well. However, Tableau is the selection.
