Verdict
The best race is saved until last and although Kerry Lads, Tyneandthyneagain and Bramblehill Duke all have sound claims, last years winner Spendid looks to have every chance of following up. Alan King's tough 11-year-old has mixed it with some of the best over the years, especially over timber where he frequently came up against the likes of Baracuda and company. Better known as a chaser nowadays he still has what it takes, despite his advancing years, as his third to Ryalux and Stormez in this years Scottish Grand National will testify. He can run here off the same mark as when beating Random Harvest last term and he will be all the sharper for a recent spin over timber. Kerry Lads, just behind the selection at Ayr, is entitled to beat him on these terms, but there is a suspicion he reserves his best for the Scottish track. Tyneandthyneagain lacks the experience of his more illustrious rivals, and on the face of it has plenty to do at the weights on what he has achieved over fences, but he is well regarded and it would be folly to dismiss him, while Another General is also short on experience and is probably best watched on this return to action. Bramblehill Duke has plenty of ability, but his fencing often leaves something to be desired. However, if putting in a clear round, must go well. Shardante should confirm Aintree form with Tyndarius on 10lbs better terms, but the latter is in better form now and there may not be that much between them. Even so, it is hard to see either being good enough at this level. Native Buck has his ideal conditions and lack of a recent outing shouldn't deter his followers as he has gone well fresh in the past. However. Spendid is handicapped to follow up last years success in this contest and can prove too strong for his rivals.
