        Verdict

        No Sergent Cecil this year so his conqueror at York in the Lonsdale, Septimus, gets the vote ahead of Allegretto, Geordieland and Balkan Knight. Aiden O'Brien's charge comes here in peak form having been successful at York and although he may not be seen by many as one of his stable's leading lights, a record of 5 wins in 9 starts bears close scrutiny. Whilst he may prefer a little more ease in the ground, he should love this extra couple of furlongs and is taken to win again. Distinction finished behind Septimus at York and despite a 3lb turn in the weights, he has plenty to do to reverse those placings. Baddam has proven more at home in the South but Mick Channon's charge battles well and shouldn't be dismissed lightly, however a more obvious threat may well be Allegretto who ran well at York over an inadequate trip and having previously won at Goodwood, a big run looks on the cards. Finalmente finished behind him on that occasion and this consistent sort should again give it another good go, however Geordieland looks a more likely danger. He needs to be played late as he stops when hitting the front, however if they go a decent pace he must be respected. Not the greatest renewal ever, however Septimus looks a class above and gets the vote.
