In depth
Verdict
The most-valuable race on the card and it has attracted a competitive field of 14 runners. Baby Gee won well at Sedgefield last time but this is tougher. Mary Reveley runs two, the better-fancied of which could prove to be I Got Rhythm. Her second to Wednesday's Wetherby winner Minivet looks even better now and conditions could well suit. Kali des Obeaux could be interesting in handicaps. Her overall form is not too bad and she seemed not to stay on her last run. Lady Laureate is clearly very well handicapped on her fourth to Quazar at last year's Aintree festival and this going will be much more to her liking, so she has to be given a serious look. Last Theatre's third to Caracciola in a maiden hurdle at Newbury last time reads very well even though she then disappointed on her handicap debut, although that was over half-a-mile further. Noisetine has also to be respected on her 2002 form, when she won twice at around this time of year. Mrs Reveley's other runner, the topweight Out Of The Shadows, also holds chances at best, and her rider will also take a useful five pounds off her back. She also wears first-time cheekpieces. Over The Counter has been absent for a very long time and cannot be fancied. Paul Nicholls runs Robyn Alexander and she is another to warrant a second look. On balance, she is not badly handicapped and Bobby McNally will also take a useful 3lbs off her back. Route Sixty Six has been chasing with limited success while Right, although lightly raced, has something to find on balance. Super Sammy is on the same mark as when winning at Newcastle last month on heavy, but her form is solid enough and, again, she can't be readily dismissed. Scented Air has been in great heart, winning four of her last eight races on the AW and over hurdles. Raised 6lbs for her December win at Ludlow, she too cannot be ruled out. As you would expect for the very good money, it's a smashing race but Mary Reveley's I Got Rhythm gets the nod, but without a great deal of conviction.
