Verdict

SAXON WARRIOR has all the credentials to become Aidan O'Brien's seventh Derby winner. The unbeaten 2000 Guineas winner, a son of the brilliant Japan-based Deep Impact, has a pedigree packed with stamina and the Triple Crown could be on the agenda if he's successful here. He showed the necessary blend of speed and stamina to land the first colt's classic and it's difficult to see how the likes of Masar and Roaring Lion can reverse the form though the latter was undoubtedly impressive in the Dante. As we saw last year, the Ballydoyle battalions are not here for the outing though none have shown anything like the quality it takes to win the great race. Dermot Weld's horses are flying so Derrinstown winner Hazapour isn't coming without a realistic chance and the booking of Frankie is a master stroke. He will enjoy some cut in the ground as will Young Rascal, whose trainer has won this in the past and doesn't run them unless convinced of a big effort. He has the kind of action suited to soft going and is progressing fast.
