Verdict

Caspian Prince has won this in three of the past four years and both Desert Law and Duke Of Firenze have been successful. The former was drawn 1 last year and is in 2 this time so looks ideally placed though soft ground may blunt his exceptional early pace. Desert Law is another with an inside berth and he won't mind the conditions though he'll need to bounce back from a couple of moderate efforts. Duke Of Firenze was beaten in a very tight finish a year ago but finished as strongly as anything and showed a bit more dash at York last time. DARK SHOT, beaten a short-head last year, is only 3lb higher and returned with a cracking effort at York so he's handed the nod as Boom The Groom hardly ever wins these days.
