Verdict
This is going to be a tough one to win and it is with no great conviction that Monsieur Bond is selected to prevail over Vanderlin and Pomfret Lad. Bryan Smart's charge is considered Group class in the stable, and certainly looked the part when scoring at Chester in July. He did not look happy when sixth to Naayir in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes, but on his next outing at York, was going like the winner a furlong out until collared by Outsider Vanderlin on the line. He should really have won that Listed event, and the fact that he is two pounds better off with Andrew Balding's runner for a short-head should ensure that he turns the tables and gains a deserved victory for his likeable trainer. Pomfret Lad could be the fly in the ointment, having made all at Newbury the time before last, on what was his first outing over seven furlongs. However, he flopped badly at Goodwood three weeks ago and cannot therefore be relied upon. Danger Over comes from a stable in form, while Lady Lindsay and Topkamp have both threatened to score of late. The latter has been keeping Group company and was a gallant second in Germany a month ago. Michael bell's filly will go on the ground and seems to like today's trip. A cracking contest is in the offing, with Monsieur Bond the pick.
