In depth

Verdict

David Gandolfo, better known as a jumps trainer, looks to have a fine chance of landing this handicap with Shirazi, who comes into this on the back of winning a maiden hurdle at Newton Abbot last month. The winner of an All-Weather handicap, off this mark, back in January, when in the care of John Hills, he wasn't disgraced when beaten the following month of a 3lbs higher mark. He could prove to be well treated in this, despite having to give weight away all round. Katiypour is surely flattered by his latest effort where he finished on the heels of a 110 and 99 rated rivals, but as he had a couple of 90 plus handicappers trailing in his wake, maybe he is worth a second look. Previously the winner of a couple of All-Weather claimers, that is probably the line to how good he is. Course and distance winner Mostarsil has more to do off this 8lbs higher mark, but he is still well treated on the best of his form a couple of years ago, where he was runner-up to the prolific Port Moresby off a mark of 82. However, he will do well to confirm recent course form with Duc's Dream, who gets a healthy pull in the weights for a length and a half beating. Red Lion will love the prevailing conditions and as he is only 1lb higher than when winning the Amateur Derby over course and distance last year, he should be involved in the shake up. However, Shirazi is taken to provide Kieren Fallon with another winner in his quest to become champion jockey.
