Verdict
The drop in trip should suit BEST INTENT and the Michael Jarvis-trained filly can see off Mascarene, Thousandkissesdeep and Pebble Beach. The selection's run at Goodwood last time behind the big improver Ship's Biscuit hasn't been franked by the second or fifth but she ran well for a long way before getting tired and over this shorter trip she might take some pegging back. Mascarene ran in a fairly strong Newbury contest last time out but after such a promising debut third at Warwick she was ultimately disappointing when finishing fourth. She needs to prove that she is better than that, although this could be interpreted as an easier assignment. Thousandkissesdeep is fitted with blinkers for this first run as a three-year-old; John Gosden does well when employing first-time headgear and with the bare form of her Yarmouth run in October reading well (winner rated 93 since, third and fourth have franked the form) she shouldn't be dismissed. Also of interest is Pebble Beach with the extra distance today in her favour. She was green on debut at Windsor but shaped with promise and mustn't be discounted with Mr Fallon on-board for the first time. Open stuff then, but marginal preference is for Best Intent.
